Winery Notes:

Exhibiting the most mineral nose so far, with straw, wet stones and pine tree aromas. On the palate, a combination of rum butter and lemon; a little less fat than the other premier cru wines, more stony, minerally and earthy with a bit of stone-ground wheat on the finish.

Note: from vines between 35 and 50 years of age evenly divided between parcels of Mélinots, Châtains and Roncières. A markedly more floral-suffused nose reveals additional notes of spice, shellfish and just sliced citrus. The sleek, well-detailed and more refined middleweight flavors aren't as powerful or rich yet I like the balance and overall sense of harmony. This understated effort is a Vaillons of finesse. *Burghound Outstanding!*

Expressive and complex, this flinty white features peach, lemon, mineral and lanolin aromas and flavors. Harmonious and silky in texture, evolving nicely on the palate to the long fruit- and mineral-stained aftertaste. Drink now through 2033.

The 2022 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru comes from two parcels (Vaillons and Roncières). It has a very aromatic floral bouquet with mirabelle, jasmine and orchard fruit, with a hint of nougat in the background. Very fine delineation. The palate is taut and crisp on the entry, slightly waxy in texture, and maybe even a little petrol-y in style. It has good depth and crisp acidity but shuts down somewhat towards the finish. Cellar for 3-4 years.

Touch of spice, crunchy fruit, less multi-dimensional than others in the Louis Michel range at the moment, but there is certainly potential for development. Needs 12 months but then likely to be an early drinker after that. Quite tight and closed currently, Michel's Vaillons had only very recently been bottled.
