CLOS DES BRUSQUIÈRES Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2019
This is tight and grippy, but has a live wire of racy iron-edged minerality spreading out from the core, providing a matrix for the myriad of plum reduction, cherry paste, red licorice, sweet bay, lavender, cassis bush and juniper notes to build off of. A wild brambly feel drives the finish. Distinctive and should provide plenty intrigue as it ages. Best from 2024 through 2036. 8,500 cases made, 600 cases imported. — JM $50
Wine Spectator 95 Points *BOSQUET DES PAPES Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes 2019
Steeped plum and cherry compote notes are the main marker here, though chestnut, sweet bay, singed alder and tobacco flavors all make their presence known. Tar and licorice root accents underline the finish, giving this a toothy, old school edge. Rock solid, throwback-styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2024 through 2038. —J.M. $89
Jeb Dunnuck 96 Points
2019 Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is the usual blend of roughly 30% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties that was brought up in foudre. It offers a vivid ruby/purple hue as well as stunning aromatics of blueberries, violets, peppered beef, leather, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant, it has just a kiss of classic Beaucastel wild, sauvage nuances, ripe, silky tannins, and a great finish. Give bottles 4-5 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following two decades. $100

Saturday Tasting, 12/4/21 (1:00 PM-3:30 PM): 2018 Arnot Roberts Trout Gulch Santa Cruz Mt Chardonnay, 2017 Etude Napa Cabernet and 2017 Taub Family Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Cabernet.
Antonio Galloni, Vinous 93 Points
Arnot-Roberts 2018 Chardonnay Trout Gulch Santa Cruz Mountains
The 2018 Chardonnay Trout Gulch is loaded with personality and class. Citrus, dried flowers, mint and sage are some of the many nuances that grace this Chardonnay from the southern reaches of the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 2018, the Trout Gulch has more overt body and less of the sizzling cut it has had in some previous editions, which means it will drink nicely with just another year or two in bottle. There is still plenty of energy, but more mid-palate depth and less austerity than in some years. $ Drinking window: 2020 – 2028. $45
Wine Spectator 93 Points * ETUDE Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017
Packed with juicy black currant, plum and blackberry compote flavors that pump along the graphite-edged grip and a dark tobacco backdrop. Frankly toasted on the finish, but with ample fruit for balance. A serious Cab. Best from 2022 through 2034. —J.M. $100
Wine Spectator 93 Points * TAUB FAMILY VINEYARDS Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard 2017
This late release is a beauty, with the fruit-forward profile of the vintage, showing lush plum, raspberry and cassis flavors, without the slight midpalate gap shown by many wines of the vintage. There's also a nicely filled-in finish that delivers a second rush of anise, bramble and sweet tobacco notes. Drink now through 2030. 260 cases made. — JM $125
