2016 Paul Lato Pinot Noir Lancelot Pisoni Vineyard
The 2016 Pinot Noir Lancelot Pisoni Vineyard offers up aromas of wood smoke, plums, tar, spice and berry preserve. On the palate, it's full-bodied and rich, but also more angular, with firm, stony tannins underlying its formidable core of ripe, sweet fruit. While this makes the biggest impact of the Paul Lato Pinot Noirs, I wonder if it will ever attain the same harmony as some of the other wines in the portfolio. $94

The 2016 Chardonnay has a lovely savory, yeasty/toasty nose over a core of warm grapefruit, fresh apricots and allspice with a touch of candied ginger. 2015 Sobon Rezerve Primitivo
Winemaker Notes: Originally planted in the early 90’s on well-drained bench land, this dry farmed, sustainably grown block
is now producing some of the most flavorful high quality fruit on the entire estate. Primitivo is the Italian clone of Zinfandel, and delivers a wine leaning more in the direction of rich plum-like flavors rather than blackberry. A full bodied wine of great richness and depth with a ripe mouth-filling viscous structure, and a smooth almost feminine silkiness that belies its bold character. Heady aromatics give way to a lush warm finish that makes this wine the ideal complement to the most savory and heartiest fare. FOOD PAIRING: Serve with leg of lamb, braised short ribs, duck confit and beef tournedos, or pasta with spicy sauces.$25 Our Price $15.95

Ridge Vineyards 2015 Monte Bello
Monte Bello, Santa Cruz Mountains, Central Coast
One of the highlights in this tasting, the 2015 Monte Bello will soon take its place among the greatest Monte Bellos ever made. Powerful, deep and explosive, the 2015 possesses magnificent concentration and richness in every dimension. Even with all of its raciness, the 2015 has terrific aromatic presence and regal tannins. The 2015 is a bit less showy than it has been in the past, but it was also just bottled two weeks before this tasting. Readers who own it will be absolutely thrilled. $215 (Please email stan@grapetray.com)
