Winery Notes:

Deep and pure ruby in color, this wine has an abundance of enticing aromas: beginning with boysenberry and blueberry pie, and leading to pastry cream, a bit of toast and a hint of menthol. On the palate, the tannin is supple and smooth. Flavors of blueberry and blackberry first greet the taste buds, leading to notes of chocolate-covered cherries and a fruit-driven finish that pops. A well-marbled, grilled rib-eye, braised short ribs or a roast leg of lamb would pair beautifully with this wine. Grilled portobellos or a rich wild mushroom risotto are also excellent options.

The deeper purple-hued 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a terrific Oakville effort loaded with pure cassis fruit as well as notes of spicy oak, scorched earth, and tobacco. Classic Napa Cabernet in every way, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, a terrific spine of acidity, and the balance and purity to evolve for 20-25 years if well stored.

A fresh, overt style, with a lovely beam of red currant, bing cherry and raspberry paste stitched together with flickers of anise, sassafras and bramble. Delivers a pretty violet echo on the fruity finish. Best from 2023 through 2037. 3,100 cases made.

Notes of blackberries and cassis with hints of pine needles, cedar and chocolate. Full-bodied with firm tannins and a deep, juicy fruit core. Long and chewy finish with hints of stones. Rather polished tannins at the end. Try in 2023, to allow it to open.

Groth's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve substantially raises the stakes, showing much more richness and concentration than the regular Cabernet Sauvignon. Black cherries and cassis appear on the nose, framed by cedar and vanilla, while the medium to full-bodied palate is velvety and expansive, flowing easily into a long, harmonious finish dusted with soft tannins.
